Background to the study

In-service Teachers denotes an instructor who simultaneously engages in academic study and professional activity. An in-service program is a professional training or staff development initiative in which professionals are trained and discuss their work with others in their peer group. These discussions take place inside an in-service environment. According to Okoro (2019), it is an essential part of the ongoing education that is required of doctors, pharmacists, and other medical professionals. It is also widespread among public personnel, such as teachers and authorities in charge of maintaining public safety.

Duraton (2016) asserts that the term "in-service program" can also apply to the many programs that are made available to enlisted service members of the military while they are still serving their country. In-service programs can also apply to educators and are gatherings at which they discuss pedagogical practices, individual instances, and the demands of their profession. The importance of continuing education for teachers cannot be overstated. This is especially true when one considers the need to keep up with emerging tendencies in classroom management strategies as well as the fluid nature of knowledge and how it affects the content that needs to be taught to students.

Importantly, there are many different approaches that may be used to arrange education during in-service periods with the purpose of improving teachers' ability to educate. Among these are the organization of refresher courses as well as school plant level. It is impossible to place enough emphasis on the value of good teachers. This is because instructors are responsible for a variety of tasks. Omole,  (2014) makes the specific point that educators are a driving force behind innovation in the classroom. It is essential for there to be a high level of academic qualification among teachers for there to be meaningful innovation. This is due to the fact that teacher education is a very complicated endeavor. The complexity arises as a result of several factors, one of which is the determination of what effective teachers are. Teachers are expected to fulfill a variety of roles, some of which are universal to all teachers and others of which are specifically related to certain kinds of environments of students or subject matter. In addition to this, teacher education entails the training of professionals who will in the future educate students. This fact adds to the importance of the field. The significance of academic preparation for all types of educators cannot be overstated, despite the fact that the field of educator preparation is notoriously difficult to navigate. This is due to the fact that the academic prowess of a given institution's teaching staff is directly proportional to that institution's level of efficacy, and no educational system can excel beyond the caliber of its instructors (FGN, 2001, p. 38).

Duraton (2016) opined that the teaching of science in a manner that presents scientific concepts as part of a cohesive whole is referred to as integrated science. Computer science, on the other hand, is a discipline that has a closer connection to integrated science than any other field does, despite the fact that it also includes elements of biology, chemistry, and physics. Integrated science is an amalgamated course that aims to demonstrate the coherence, completeness, and interconnectedness of the many subfields that comprise science . The integrated science curriculum is nothing more than a compilation of topics from the various single-science curricula (Abba, 2003). Because many of the concepts studied in integrated science are also found in physics, it is reasonable to assume that students who combine their study of physics and integrated science will do better than those who combine their study of physics and computing. On the other hand, the purpose of this research is to investigate the impact that in-service instructors have on the academic performance of students studying basic science.
